Ilex verticillata 'Spravy' is commonly referred to as Berry Heavy® Winterberry Holly. This Proven Winners® Color Choice® selection produces copious amounts of bright red berries that really shine in the fall and winter landscape. To produce berries, a male and female plant are both required - use an early male such as Jim Dandy Winterberry as the pollinator. This wildlife attractant - birds love the berries - is native to North America.
Berry Heavy® Winterberry Holly is deciduous so it will drop its leaves when the berries appear. It thrives in full or filtered sun in rich, organic, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It provides great winter interest and is perfect as a foundation plant, screening, or in mass plantings.
